Description
Le Dimitile is a plateau summit of 1,837 m in the Hauts of the commune of L'Entre-Deux, in the south of Réunion (a French overseas department). It sits on a planèze — a gently sloping lava apron of the Piton des Neiges massif — and looks straight over the south-eastern rim of the Cirque de Cilaos; its viewpoints around 1,850 m have an orientation table framing the panorama into the cirque. The mountain is named after Dimitile, an escaped-slave (marron) leader nicknamed 'l'insaisissable' who lived in these highlands during the slavery era (roughly 1715–1848). That heritage is revived at the Camp Marron, an open-air museographic space reconstructing a maroon settlement with wooden and pandanus-leaf huts and a memorial stele, run by volunteers of the Capitaine Dimitile association across a 20-hectare protected natural area. After abolition the zone was settled by the 'Petits Blancs des Hauts', who cultivated rose geranium for essential oil before the site was abandoned following the 1948 cyclone. Several trails climb from Entre-Deux — among them the Bœuf–La Chapelle, la Grande Jument, and the notoriously hard Bayonne path.

Routes
Sentier Bayonne
Sangat berat, untuk pendaki berpengalamanThis path on the left side of the massif is ranked among Réunion's toughest hikes: about 8.5 km with more than 1,700 m of cumulative gain in roughly 7.5 hours. Very demanding and recommended only for fit, experienced hikers.
SourceSentier Bœuf–La Chapelle (rute termudah)
Menengah, jalur bertandaThe easiest access to Le Dimitile's viewpoints from the village of Entre-Deux. Per Randopitons, the trail climbs via the Sentier Bœuf-Chapelle and can descend by the Piste Jean Dubard, with roughly 700 m of gain over about 5 hours. It ends at the orientation table around 1,850 m facing the Cirque de Cilaos, near the Camp Marron site.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Climbing Le Dimitile centres on two draws: the wide panorama over the Cirque de Cilaos from the summit viewpoints, and the marronage heritage at the Camp Marron. Trail choices vary — from the easiest Bœuf–La Chapelle path to the Bayonne trail, ranked among Réunion's hardest hikes. The vlogs, Randopitons guides and blog write-ups below capture the range of routes and the character of the site.
