Description
Kanlaon (2,435 m) is the most active volcano in the central Philippines and the highest peak in the Visayas, located on Negros Island. A stratovolcano in the Pacific Ring of Fire, it has erupted over 25 times in the past century. The main Wasay-Guintubdan traverse (3 days, Class 4) passes through scenic Margaha Valley (an old crater). Since a series of major eruptions beginning June 2024, all trails are closed under a PHIVOLCS 4–6 km danger zone. Always check PHIVOLCS alert status before planning a climb.
