Description
The Tour of Monte Rosa (TMR) is a ~163 km circuit around the Monte Rosa massif, crossing the border between Italy and Switzerland in the heart of the Pennine Alps. Usually walked as a hut-to-hut route over 8–11 stages with more than 10,000 m of cumulative ascent, it reaches its high point near the Theodul Pass (~3,317 m) and includes at least one glacier crossing, making it a serious undertaking for experienced alpine hikers. The trail delivers close-up views of the Matterhorn, the icy walls of Monte Rosa, and ancient Walser villages. The best season is mid-July to September, when the mountain huts are fully staffed and the route is largely free of snow.
