Description
The Fishermen's Trail (Trilho dos Pescadores) is a ~226 km coastal route within the Rota Vicentina network in southwest Portugal, running from the Alentejo coast into the Algarve entirely inside the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Split into 13 daily stages and typically walked in 9–14 days, it traces Atlantic clifftops and the sandy footpaths once used by local fishermen to reach their fishing spots, linking traditional fishing villages such as Porto Covo, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Odeceixe, and Zambujeira do Mar. Although it has little climbing, hours of walking on soft sand and exposed, windy clifftops make it genuinely tiring. This stretch of coast hosts one of the world's few coastal white-stork colonies nesting on sea stacks, blending ocean scenery, fishing culture, and wildlife. It is best hiked from September to June to avoid the summer heat and crowds.
Trail Highlights
Tebing Atlantik dramatis dan jalur pasir di atas tebing sepanjang pesisir barat daya Portugal; desa nelayan tradisional (Porto Covo, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Odeceixe, Zambujeira do Mar); pantai terpencil; bangau putih yang bersarang di tumpukan batu laut — koloni pesisir langka di dunia
