Description
The Otter Trail is an iconic 44 km coastal trek in Garden Route National Park (Tsitsikamma Section), South Africa, widely regarded as one of the world's finest multi-day hikes. The five-day, four-night route runs from Storms River Mouth to Natures Valley, traversing dramatic sea cliffs, Afrotemperate coastal rainforest, hidden white-sand beaches, and waterfalls that spill directly into the Indian Ocean. The most exhilarating challenge is crossing the Bloukrans River, where hikers must time the crossing around tidal conditions using pre-obtained tide tables. With only 12 hikers permitted per day and bookings opening a full year in advance through SANParks, the Otter Trail is one of Africa's most exclusive trekking experiences.
