Description
The Nar Phu Valley Trek is one of Nepal's most remote and authentic routes, hidden between the Annapurna and Manaslu circuits in the Manang district. The twin valleys of Nar and Phu were only opened to foreign trekkers in 2003 and remain a restricted area with limited permits, leaving their ancient Tibetan villages, monasteries, chortens and nomadic pastures almost untouched. The roughly 80 km route is usually completed in 9–14 days, following narrow gorges and dramatic rock formations above the Nar River before reaching the trek's climax: the crossing of the Kang La pass at around 5,320 m, which opens up sweeping panoramas of the Annapurna massif and Tilicho. From Kang La the trail descends to Ngawal and joins the Annapurna Circuit via Manang. Because of its restricted status, the trek must be arranged through a registered agency with a minimum of two trekkers and a licensed guide.
Trail Highlights
