Description
The Mount Kailash Kora is a 52 km pilgrimage circuit around the sacred 6,638 m peak of Kailash in western Tibet, revered by four faiths — Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon. Starting and ending at Darchen, it is typically completed by pilgrims and trekkers over 3 days (local pilgrims often finish in a single day), with the second day the hardest as it crosses the Dolma La at 5,645 m. Although the distance is modest, the extreme altitude and thin air make acclimatization the key safety factor. The dramatic north face of Kailash seen from Dirapuk and its deep spiritual significance make the kora one of the most famous pilgrimage-trekking routes in the world.
