Description
Lake Waikaremoana Track is a Great Walk in Te Urewera, the ancestral homeland of Tūhoe on New Zealand's North Island. The one-way route links Onepoto and Hopuruahine along the lake's southern and western shores, usually taking three to four days. The 46 km figure follows DOC's Great Walks comparison; Wikipedia lists 44 km. Panekire's ridge reaches a trig point around 1,180 m before the route descends into forest and returns to the lakeshore. Consult DOC for current conditions and facilities: Whanganui Hut was listed as closed when researched in September 2026.
