Description
The Machame Route is the most popular and widely considered the most scenic way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's 5,895 m rooftop in Tanzania. Nicknamed the 'Whiskey Route', the 6–7 day trail crosses rainforest, the Shira Plateau, the iconic Barranco Wall and Barafu camp before a pre-dawn summit push to Uhuru Peak. The climb is non-technical but very demanding due to extreme altitude, so 'climb high, sleep low' acclimatisation is key. A licensed operator with porters is required within Kilimanjaro National Park.
Trail Highlights
Rainforest, the Shira Plateau, the Barranco Wall, Barafu Camp, and the pre-dawn summit to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the roof of Africa.
