Description

The Jomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan's most iconic multi-day trekking routes, leading hikers from the Paro valley through the heart of Jigme Dorji National Park to the foot of Mount Jomolhari (Chomolhari), a sacred 7,326 m peak on the Bhutan-Tibet border revered by Tibetan Buddhists as the abode of a protective goddess. The roughly 80 km route is typically completed in 7–11 days, following the Paro Chu through pine forests, yak-herder settlements and remote monasteries before reaching Jangothang base camp (4,100 m), where the north face of Jomolhari rises dramatically above the tents. The classic loop continues past Lingshi and crosses high passes such as Nyile La and Yeli La approaching 4,900 m before descending toward Thimphu. Blending grand Himalayan scenery with an intimate look at rural Bhutanese life, the trek must be undertaken with a licensed operator, guide and camp crew in line with Bhutan's high-value tourism policy.
