Description

GR 34, also called the Sentier des Douaniers, follows the Brittany coast from Mont-Saint-Michel to Saint-Nazaire. The long route passes tidal bays, rocky headlands, beaches, harbor villages, and pink granite scenery, often tracing former customs patrol paths. The regional tourism authority describes it as more than 2,000 km and estimates roughly 100 days at an average of 20 km per day, though hikers can choose shorter sections. It is not high mountain hiking, but repeated short climbs and descents require endurance; spring and September offer comfortable conditions.

Trail Highlights

A long coastal traverse past Mont-Saint-Michel, the Emerald Coast, pink granite cliffs, the Crozon Peninsula, Pointe du Raz, and the Gulf of Morbihan.
