Description
The GR221, or Ruta de Pedra en Sec ("Dry Stone Route"), is a long-distance trek of about 140 km running the length of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains in northwestern Mallorca, Spain — a range inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its name comes from the mortar-free dry-stone building technique behind the terraces, mule paths, and traditional walls the trail follows. It is usually walked over 6–10 days in stages between Port d'Andratx in the southwest and Pollença in the north, passing mountain villages, ancient olive groves, the Lluc Monastery, and the Barranc de Biniaraix gorge. Spring and autumn are the best seasons, when temperatures are mild and wildflowers bloom, since the Mediterranean summer is too hot and some stages lack water sources.
Trail Highlights
Traverse Pegunungan Serra de Tramuntana (Warisan Dunia UNESCO) melintasi jalur bebatuan kering (dry-stone) kuno, kebun zaitun terasering, biara Lluc, Barranc de Biniaraix, Sendero del Archiduque dekat Valldemossa, serta panorama tebing kapur ke Laut Mediterania.
