Description
The GR11 — Travesía Pirenaica — is an 840 km long-distance trail traversing the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, from Hondarribia on the Atlantic coast to Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean. Its 35 official stages cross País Vasco, Navarra, Aragón, and Cataluña, accumulating over 39,000 m of total elevation gain through some of the range's most remote valleys. Wilder and less serviced than the French GR10, the GR11 rewards hikers with uncrowded mountain scenery, glacial tarns, and raw high-country wilderness. The route passes through the Posets-Maladeta massif — home to Aneto, the Pyrenees' highest summit at 3,404 m — as well as Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park and the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.
Trail Highlights
The Posets-Maladeta massif with Aneto, the highest peak in the Pyrenees (3,404 m), Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, glacial valleys, clear blue mountain lakes, and the remote villages of Aragon and Catalonia
