The ~7–12 day journey passes Gurung villages, rhododendron forests and the Jhinu hot springs before entering the cliff-ringed 'sanctuary', including Machapuchare (Fishtail). With moderate altitude and dramatic scenery, ABC is often called the best first Himalayan trek. The area is protected within the Annapurna Conservation Area.
