The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek, also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, takes hikers into the heart of Nepal's Annapurna massif at 4,130 m. The ~7–12 day journey passes Gurung villages, rhododendron forests and the Jhinu hot springs before entering the cliff-ringed 'sanctuary', including Machapuchare (Fishtail). With moderate altitude and dramatic scenery, ABC is often called the best first Himalayan trek. The area is protected within the Annapurna Conservation Area.
