Yvon Chouinard (born 1938) is an American climber who helped define the golden age of Yosemite climbing and championed 'clean climbing' using removable protection instead of pitons. He made landmark first ascents such as El Capitan's North America Wall in 1964. He later founded Chouinard Equipment and built the outdoor company Patagonia, known for its environmental activism.
