Yūichirō Miura (born 12 October 1932, Aomori, Japan) is a Japanese extreme skier and mountaineer. On 6 May 1970 he became the first person to ski down Mount Everest from the South Col, using a parachute to brake his descent — an act immortalized in the film The Man Who Skied Down Everest (1975), winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary. On 23 May 2013, at age 80, Miura became the oldest person to summit Everest, breaking his own records set at ages 75 and 70.
