Wojciech 'Voytek' Kurtyka (born 25 July 1947, Skrzynka, Poland) is a Polish mountaineer and rock climber regarded as one of the most influential figures of alpine-style Himalayan climbing — light, fast, without supplemental oxygen or support teams. His most celebrated achievement is the 1985 ascent of the west face of Gasherbrum IV, the 'Shining Wall,' with Robert Schauer, which Climbing magazine named one of the 10 most impressive climbs of the 20th century. In 2016 he received the Piolet d'Or Carrière (lifetime achievement award).
