Together with Qu Yinhua and Gongbu, became one of the first Chinese to climb Everest via the north side (25 May 1960).

Chinese mountaineer (c. 1935–2015), part of the historic 1960 expedition that proved Everest could be climbed from the north side. His expedition used the innovative 'human ladder' technique to overcome the steep Second Step, marking a milestone in the history of Chinese mountaineering.
