Um Hong-gil (born 1960) is one of South Korea's most renowned Himalayan mountaineers. He completed all fourteen peaks above 8,000 metres — finishing on K2 in 2000 — and is recorded as the first person to climb the 16 highest points on Earth (including Yalung Kang and Lhotse Shar).
