The oldest woman to climb Everest — first at age 63 (2002) and breaking her own record at age 73 (2012).

Japanese mountaineer (born 21 November 1938, Yamanashi Prefecture) and retired office worker who lives at the base of Mount Fuji. In May 2002, at age 63, she became the oldest woman to summit Everest. Ten years later, in May 2012 at age 73, she broke her own record by summiting Everest a second time — making her the oldest woman ever to reach the world's highest summit. She has also climbed Denali, the Eiger, and Lhotse.
