Pemba Gyalje Sherpa (born 1973, northern Nepal) is a Sherpa mountain guide who grew up in the shadow of Everest and has summited it several times. He is best known for his bravery during the 2008 K2 disaster: as a member of the Norit team he rescued and guided down several climbers stranded near the Bottleneck, including finding expedition leader Wilco van Rooijen by following the sound of his phone. National Geographic named him Adventurer of the Year and gave him its Heroism Award in 2009.
