Norman Edwin (1955–1992) was one of Indonesia's pioneering mountaineers and adventure journalists. As a member of Mapala UI and a reporter for the Kompas daily, he wrote extensively about outdoor exploration and pioneered several major expeditions to world-famous mountains during the 1980s. He died in mid-April 1992 while climbing Aconcagua (6,959 m) on the Argentina–Chile border with his colleague Didiek Samsu, as part of Mapala UI's 'Seven Summits' expedition series. He is remembered as an inspiration to many young Indonesian climbers.
