CLIMBER

Nobukazu Kuriki

Japan

Japanese climber who made eight live-streamed attempts on Everest without oxygen and died on his final attempt in 2018.

Nobukazu Kuriki (1982–2018) was a Japanese mountaineer and entrepreneur from Hokkaido. He summited Cho Oyu (2007) and Dhaulagiri (2009) and became widely known for a series of live-streamed Everest attempts; he lost nine fingers to frostbite in 2012 and died on Everest in May 2018 during his eighth attempt. His claimed "solo without oxygen" style was disputed by the climbing community.
