Slovenia
Slovenian alpinist with four Piolet d'Or awards, including the inaugural 1992 prize for a new route on Kangchenjunga South.
Born 13 October 1965, Marko Prezelj is a Slovenian alpinist and photographer. He won the inaugural Piolet d'Or in 1992 with Andrej Štremfelj for their alpine-style new route on the south ridge of Kangchenjunga South (8,476 m). He refused his second award (2007, Chomolhari's northwest pillar with Boris Lorenčič) out of objection to competition in alpinism. A third Piolet d'Or followed in 2014 for the north face of Hagshu with Aleš Česen and Luka Lindič, and a fourth in 2016 for "Light Before Wisdom" on the east face of Cerro Kishtwar. Prezelj holds a degree in chemical engineering and works as an IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide.
