Argentine alpinist and guide who summited seven of the fourteen 8,000 m peaks without supplemental oxygen; died on Nanga Parbat (2017).

Mariano Galván (1980–2017) was an Argentine climber, mountaineer, and professional mountain guide based in Mendoza who was especially active in Aconcagua Provincial Park, where he opened new routes and volunteered with the rescue team. He explored mountains in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan, and Alaska, and reached the summits of seven of the fourteen highest peaks on Earth—Everest, Lhotse, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Broad Peak, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu—always without supplemental oxygen. He died in an avalanche on Nanga Parbat, Pakistan, in June 2017.
