Hervé Barmasse (born 21 December 1977) is an Italian alpinist from Valtournenche, born into a climbing family — his father Marco and grandfather Michel were also alpinists. A Matterhorn guide since 2000, he built his reputation on solo ascents of the mountain's south face, including the first solo of the Casarotto-Grassi route (2002), the Deffeyes route in under four hours (2005), and a solo repeat of the Direttissima his father first climbed in 1983. His search for unclimbed faces took him to Pakistan's Karakoram, where he has opened new routes since 2004.
