Erik Weihenmayer (born 23 September 1968) is an American athlete, adventurer, author and speaker who lost his sight as a teenager. He became the first blind person to summit Mount Everest on 25 May 2001, completed the Seven Summits in September 2002, and added Carstensz Pyramid in 2008. He has also climbed the Nose of El Capitan (1996) and the 820 m Losar ice face in the Himalaya (2008).
