Erhard Loretan (1959–2011) was a Swiss mountaineer, the third person and second without supplemental oxygen to climb all 14 eight-thousanders, from Nanga Parbat (1982) to Kangchenjunga (1995). He applied fast-and-light Alpine principles to the Himalaya, climbing Gasherbrum II, Gasherbrum I and Broad Peak alpine-style in 17 days in 1983, and summiting Everest in just 40 hours without oxygen with Jean Troillet in 1986.
