David Lama (4 August 1990 – 16 April 2019, Innsbruck, Austria) was an Austrian-Nepali professional climber and alpinist celebrated as a sport-climbing prodigy from his teens before transitioning to big-mountain alpinism. His greatest achievement was the first free ascent of the Compressor Route on Cerro Torre, Patagonia, in January 2012 — regarded as one of the most remarkable achievements in climbing history. He died on 16 April 2019 in an avalanche on the north face of Howse Peak in the Canadian Rockies alongside fellow alpinists Jess Roskelley and Hansjörg Auer.
