Barbara "Babsi" Zangerl (born 24 May 1988) is an Austrian rock climber regarded as one of the best all-round female climbers in the world, competing near the highest grades in bouldering, trad, sport, multi-pitch and big wall climbing. In 2008 she became the first woman to climb an 8A+/8B boulder with Pura Vida, and in 2023 she repeated Meltdown (8c+), the hardest trad route climbed by a woman. She made the first female free ascents of several big wall routes, including El Niño and Zodiac (2015) and Magic Mushroom (2016) on El Capitan, the Eiger's Odyssee (2018), and Eternal Flame on Pakistan's Nameless Tower (2022). In 2024 she became the first person ever to flash a route on El Capitan, Freerider. National Geographic named her Adventurer of the Year in 2019.
