Andrew Lock

Australia

The first Australian to complete all 14 of the 8,000 m peaks (2009) — 13 of them without bottled oxygen; recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (2011).

Andrew Lock (born 26 December 1961) is an Australian mountaineer who on 2 October 2009 became the first Australian — and the 18th person worldwide — to summit all 14 eight-thousanders. He climbed 13 of the 14 without supplemental oxygen, using it only on Everest (which he summited three times). Known for his small-team style without Sherpa support, he recorded six first Australian ascents and four solo ascents on eight-thousanders. In 2011 he received the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to mountaineering.
