Description

Yala Peak (5,732 m) is a summit in the Langtang region of north-central Nepal, well known as one of the most beginner-friendly Himalayan peaks. Rising above the village of Kyanjin Gompa in the Langtang valley, it offers the experience of reaching a summit above 5,700 m without serious technical terrain — making it a popular choice for climbers wanting their first taste of a snowy Himalayan ascent. The climb is usually combined with the scenic Langtang Valley trek, so climbers acclimatise while passing Tamang villages, Buddhist monasteries and yak pastures before setting a base/high camp above Kyanjin. From the top, the panorama spans the wall of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Dorje Lakpa, and the ridgelines along the Tibetan border. Though non-technical, altitude and weather still demand gradual acclimatisation, basic snow gear (crampons and ice axe for the upper section) and an experienced guide. Its relatively easy access from Kathmandu, lower cost than the big peaks, and Langtang views make Yala Peak a popular gateway into high-altitude mountaineering.

Routes

Rute Normal — Kyanjin Gompa → Base/High Camp → Puncak (jalur salju NW)

F/PD- (mudah–menengah): moraine dan lereng salju non-teknis; tantangan utama ketinggian
Bagian dari ekspedisi 10–14 hari (termasuk trek Langtang); inti 2 hari: Kyanjin → High Camp → Puncak → turun

The standard Yala Peak route starts from Kyanjin Gompa (~3,870 m), the endpoint of the Langtang Valley trek. Climbers ascend past yak pastures and moraine to a base/high camp (~4,800–5,000 m), then set off pre-dawn up moderately angled snow slopes to the 5,732 m summit. The route is non-technical but still requires crampons and an ice axe on the upper snow section, plus good altitude management. The preceding Langtang trek serves as natural acclimatisation and offers views of Langtang Lirung throughout.
