Description
The Wugong Mountains (武功山, Wǔgōng Shān; highest peak ~1,918 m) are a mountain range on the border of Jiangxi and Hunan Provinces in south-central China. Their defining feature is an unusually expansive subalpine grassland above 1,700 m — one of the largest mountain meadows in eastern China — which makes Wugongshan a popular destination for ridge trekking and cloud-top camping. From high points near the summit, the 'sea of clouds' (云海) at dawn and dusk has become a major draw for photographers and hikers. The main attraction is a multi-day ridge walk that traverses open meadows, cloud forest, granite boulders, and rocky trails with 360° panoramas. Unlike many heavily developed Chinese scenic mountains, Wugongshan offers a more wilderness-like hiking experience, with several licensed camping areas along the ridge. The nearest entry points are Pingxiang (Jiangxi) and Anfu County, from which buses or taxis connect to the trailheads.

Routes
Trek Punggung Gunung 2 Hari (Jinding Ridge Walk & Berkemah)
Sedang — jalur berkerikil yang baik di punggung; tanjakan curam di beberapa titik awalWugong Mountains' signature route is a multi-day ridge walk (脊梁线) that traverses the subalpine grasslands above 1,700 m. Day 1: from the main trailhead at Kongting (on the Pingxiang side), climbers ascend 800–1,100 m through forest and open slopes to the ridge. Licensed camping areas are spaced along the ridge — most popular near Jinding (金顶, the highest peak ~1,918 m). Day 2: continue the ridge walk over open meadows with 360° views, before descending to the exit trailhead. The sea-of-clouds (云海) phenomenon is most dramatic at dawn and dusk from ridge viewpoints. Camping must be in licensed zones; park management provides information at the entrance.

Climbing Experiences
The Wugong Mountains (武功山, Wǔgōng Shān, ~1,918 m) on the Jiangxi–Hunan border are known for their exceptionally wide subalpine grasslands above 1,700 m — one of the largest open highland areas in eastern China's mountains. The typical hiking experience is a multi-day ridge walk with cloud-top campsites, accompanied by a dramatic 'sea of clouds' (云海) most spectacular at dawn and dusk.
