Description
The Wildhorn (3,250 m) is the highest peak of the Bernese Alps west of the Gemmi Pass, forming a broad glaciated massif (about 10 km wide) on the border of the cantons of Bern and Valais, Switzerland, between the Sanetsch and Rawil passes. Its summit meets the municipalities of Lauenen (BE), Savièse and Ayent (VS), and is ringed by five mountain lakes including the Iffigsee and Lac de Sénin, with the Tungel Glacier (Tungelgletscher) and the Glacier du Wildhorn framing the main crest. It was first climbed in September 1843 by Gottlieb Samuel Studer. The normal route is a glacier tour from the Wildhornhütte SAC (2,303 m) on the northern slopes — reached via the Iffigtal/Iffigenalp — crossing the Tungel Glacier and finishing over ice and rock near the top; it requires crampons, ice axe and rope because of the crevasses. Thanks to its non-technical yet glaciated terrain, the Wildhorn is both a summer Hochtour objective and one of the classic spring ski tours of the western Bernese Alps.

Routes
Nordgrat / Wildgrat (punggungan utara dari Wildhornhütte)
Hochtour ZS− (assez difficile): punggungan campuran batu dan serakan, sebagian batu rapuh; teknik alpen ringanA ridge alternative to the full glacier line. From the Wildhornhütte (2,303 m) it follows the start of the normal ascent to about 2,500 m, branches west toward the Silberritzepass, then climbs the Nordgrat/Wildgrat to the summit. The terrain is mostly scree with frequently brittle rock, becoming rockier above ~2,738 m; it demands care on mixed ground and suits parties wanting a ridge line rather than a full glacier route.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Climbing the Wildhorn (3,250 m), the highest peak of the western Bernese Alps, is a glacier Hochtour from the Wildhornhütte SAC across the Tungel Glacier — and a popular spring ski tour too. Climbers' footage highlights the approach via Iffigenalp/Iffigsee, the roped glacier crossing, the bare-ice section near the top, and the wide Bernese–Valais Alpine panorama from the summit.
