Description

Volcán Tolimán (3,158 m) is a stratovolcano rising from the southern shore of Lake Atitlán in Sololá, Guatemala, closely paired with the higher Volcán Atitlán across a shared saddle, while Volcán San Pedro stands on the far side of the lake. The ascent is usually done with a guide from San Lucas Tolimán at the southeastern base: the trail climbs through coffee and maize plots, then into dense pine-cypress forest, and finally high scrub and cloud near the summit. Because the paths branch, are poorly marked and cloud over by midday, hikers typically set out before dawn with a local guide. The summit offers sweeping views over Lake Atitlán, its three volcanoes, and the Guatemalan volcanic highlands.
