Description

Volcán Tajumulco (4,220 m) in San Marcos Department, western Guatemala, is both the highest mountain and the highest point in all of Central America. This stratovolcano belongs to the Sierra Madre de Chiapas range extending from southern Mexico. Though non-technical, the climb is demanding because of altitude: hikers ascend from pine-oak forest into alpine tundra before reaching the rocky summit. The most common route starts from the village of Tuichán, usually as a two-day trek with a night at a camp near the top to catch sunrise — when a sea of clouds and Guatemala's chain of volcanoes appear below. Trips are typically launched from the city of Quetzaltenango (Xela).

Routes

Pendakian Sehari (One-day push)

Sedang–berat (karena ketinggian & jarak dalam sehari)
+1200 m 1 hari (panjang)

+1300 m 2 hari (bermalam)

Route Segments

  1. 1

    Tuichán → Kamp (dekat puncak)

    ⏱ 4–6 jam 4.000 mdpl

Naik lewat hutan pinus-ek menuju tundra alpin; kamp sekitar 200 m di bawah puncak.

  2. 2

    Kamp → Puncak (4.220 m) → turun

    ⏱ ±1,5 jam naik 4.220 mdpl

Berangkat dini hari untuk sunrise; puncak berbatu dengan panorama lautan awan & gunung berapi Guatemala.
