Description
Volcán Pomerape (6,282 m) is the lower and older of the twin volcanoes of the Nevados de Payachata on the Chile–Bolivia border, standing beside the slightly higher Parinacota (6,348 m). Set between Lauca National Park (Chile) and Sajama National Park (Bolivia), Pomerape is the northernmost 6,000-metre peak in Chile. Unlike the relatively easy Parinacota, Pomerape's summit route is more demanding: from a high camp at the col linking the two volcanoes, climbers cross rocky terrain and then ascend a glacier slope of around 40°, calling for basic ice technique and snow-terrain handling. The best time to climb is the southern-hemisphere winter, when the snow is firmer and more stable. The surrounding landscape — Lake Chungará, herds of vicuña and the twin Payachata silhouettes — makes it one of the most iconic views in the Altiplano.

Routes
Pendekatan sisi Bolivia — via Taman Nasional Sajama
Berat — gletser & ketinggian ekstremThe approach from the Bolivian side through Sajama National Park, with gradual acclimatisation and a high camp before the summit push. The terrain is similar in character: an angled glacier climb requiring basic ice technique, plus the challenges of altitude above 6,200 m, strong wind and very low temperatures on one of the northernmost 6,000ers of the Chile–Bolivia Andes.
SourceRute Selatan — via pelana Payachata (kamp tinggi antara Pomerape & Parinacota)
Berat — ada bidang gletser ±40° dan medan batu (butuh teknik es dasar)The usual summit route starts very early from a high camp at the col linking Pomerape with Parinacota (around 5,300 m). From there climbers cross rocky terrain for 30–45 minutes to reach the base of the glacier, then ascend an ice slope of about 40° at first up to the 6,282 m summit. The best time is the southern-hemisphere winter, when the snow is more stable and penitentes are minimal.
SourceClimbing Experiences
There is far less documentation of Pomerape than of its twin Parinacota, and nearly all sources agree Pomerape is the harder of the Payachata pair. Reports and videos highlight the high camp at the col between the two volcanoes, the rocky terrain, then a glacier slope of around 40° up to the 6,282 m summit. The southern-hemisphere winter is cited as the best window because the snow is firmer and penitentes are minimal.
