Description

Vihren (2,914 m) is the highest peak of the Pirin Mountains and the second-highest mountain in Bulgaria after Musala (2,925 m), and among the highest summits of the Balkan Peninsula. Its white marble pyramid shape makes it an icon of Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The normal route usually starts from the Vihren hut (about 1,950 m) near Bansko, climbing through meadows and rocky terrain to a ridge, with a final marble-scree section to the summit, typically 3–4 hours up. Experienced mountaineers can take the far more exposed north-east ridge for an alpine challenge. From the top, the view opens onto Pirin's glacial lakes, the knife-edge Koncheto ridge, and the Rila mountains in the distance. Because the marble rock is slippery when wet and summer afternoon thunderstorms are common, an early start is advised.

Rute punggungan timur laut (via medan terekspos)

Berat/terekspos — untuk pendaki berpengalaman; scrambling dan eksposur tinggi
Lebih panjang & teknis dari jalur normal

A far more challenging alternative via the north-east ridge/couloir with scrambling and high exposure, sometimes holding residual snow into early summer. For experienced hikers comfortable on exposed alpine terrain only; best combined with a check of current conditions in Pirin National Park.
