Description

Vihren (2,914 m) is the highest summit of Pirin and the second highest in Bulgaria. This non-volcanic marble mountain in Pirin National Park is commonly climbed from Vihren hut through Kabata saddle on its southern side. The summer ascent gains almost 1,000 m and typically takes 3–4 hours. Proximity to Bansko does not make it an easy hike: loose rock, wind and fog can slow progress. The Gone Goat describes turning back below the summit when fog thickened; an early start does not guarantee good weather.

Ascend from Vihren hut through Kabata saddle to the south of the summit. This steep summer route gains almost 1,000 m. Banderitsa hut is a separate starting point.
