- Volcanic?
- Yes — volcano
- Coordinates
- -22.2645, -67.1869
- Difficulty
- Sedang (walk-up non-teknis, tetapi mulai dari ketinggian ekstrem; risiko utama penyakit ketinggian)
- Best Season
- April–November (musim kemarau altiplano; jalan 4WD lebih andal)
- Permits & Rules
- Umumnya didaki bersama operator dari Uyuni/Quetena Chico; akses lewat jalur tambang belerang tua. Tak ada tiket puncak formal, tetapi kawasan bersebelahan dengan Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa
- Hazards
Description
Uturuncu (6,008 m) is a dormant volcano in the Sur Lípez Province of south-western Bolivia, built from a complex of lava domes and flows with two twin summits. Its last eruption is estimated at roughly 250,000 years ago, yet active fumaroles persist between the two summits, and since the early 1990s satellites have recorded ground deformation (uplift) that has made it a heavily studied part of the Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex. It is famous as one of the world's easiest 6,000-metre peaks: an old sulphur-mine track lets a 4WD climb to roughly 5,600–5,770 m at the col between Uturuncu and Uturuncu Chico, leaving a non-technical walk of about 600 m of ascent to the summit. Even so, the extreme altitude makes good acclimatisation essential, and the climb is usually combined with an altiplano tour from Uyuni.

Routes
Jalur akses berkendara/bersepeda (jalan tertinggi dunia)
Sedang (untuk kendaraan/sepeda; ketinggian & kondisi jalan)The drive-in access track up Uturuncu to ~5,688 m, often cited as the highest motorable road in the world. It is the main approach that removes almost all of the elevation before the final walk to the summit; the track can be damaged in the rainy season.
SourceRute normal via jalur tambang belerang (Quetena Chico → pelana puncak kembar)
Sedang (walk-up non-teknis di ketinggian ekstrem; risiko utama AMS)The standard route: a 4WD ascends the old sulphur-mine track from Quetena Chico to ~5,600–5,770 m at the col between Uturuncu and Uturuncu Chico, then a non-technical walk of ~600 m of ascent in about 4 hours reaches the 6,008 m main summit. Regarded as one of the easiest 6,000 m peaks in the world, but good acclimatisation is essential.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Uturuncu (6,008 m) is regularly climbed as one of the world's easiest 6,000-metre peaks: a 4WD ascends an old sulphur-mine track to about 5,600–5,770 m, and climbers then finish with roughly a 4-hour non-technical walk to the twin summits. Trip reports stress the acclimatisation challenge of starting so high, the extreme drive-in track often cited as one of the highest in the world, and combining the climb with an Uyuni/Laguna Colorada altiplano tour. Some videos below even document reaching it by bicycle.
