Description

Tryfan rises above Llyn Ogwen in the Glyderau group of Eryri, Wales. Wikipedia gives an elevation of 917.5 m (rounded to 918 m in this profile), while the Wikidata elevation claim checked for this update records 917 m. The North Ridge is a grade 1 scramble by its easiest line; choosing more direct rock lines can substantially increase the difficulty. The South Ridge approach passes Llyn Bochlwyd and Bwlch Tryfan, taking the lake junction before reaching Llyn Idwal. Stacey MacNaught’s ascent account shows that descending the South Ridge still involves scrambling and concentration, and recorded distance can differ from an app estimate because of route choices among the rocks. The twin Adam and Eve monoliths mark the summit; jumping between them is not necessary to reach the top.

From Idwal Cottage, follow the approach towards Llyn Idwal but continue straight at the lake turn to climb towards Llyn Bochlwyd. Continue to Bwlch Tryfan and take the rocky and scree approach to the summit, returning the same way. The source gives about 7 km without a walking time. Wet terrain can be slippery and the summit section still requires scrambling.
