Description

Trois Frères — "the Three Brothers" — is a 724 m granite mountain on Mahé, Seychelles. Its distinctive triple summit makes it the most recognisable landmark south of the capital, Victoria. Cloaked in tropical rainforest, it stands on the northern rim of Morne Seychellois National Park, the country's largest national park. The official Glacis Trois Frères nature trail starts on Sans Souci Road above Victoria: about 1.4 km long, usually walked in roughly an hour round trip, it ends at a covered shelter around 300 m with a panorama of Victoria, the Sainte Anne Marine Park and the surrounding islands — on clear days Praslin and La Digue come into view. The vegetation is mixed: introduced cinnamon and spice trees grow beside native palms and screw pines, while the Seychelles' only carnivorous plant, Nepenthes pervillei, clings to the open glacis. Endemic birds such as the Seychelles bulbul, swiftlet and sunbird are regularly seen. Experienced hikers can continue up to the Trois Frères Cross at about 700 m — erected in 1956 to mark Prince Philip's visit — over granite boulder terrain that demands scrambling.

Lanjutan ke Trois Frères Cross

Sulit — scrambling di bongkahan granit, hanya untuk pendaki berpengalaman
Tambahan sekitar 1 jam dari viewpoint

From the end of the nature trail, experienced hikers can continue to the Trois Frères Cross at around 700 m — a monument erected in 1956 to mark Prince Philip's visit. Hiker accounts describe the path above the viewpoint deteriorating: large granite boulders demand scrambling and hauling up on tree roots, while roughly 30 °C heat and high humidity sap energy. The cross opens onto views of Victoria, Morne Seychellois National Park, the northern peninsula and towards Beau Vallon. This section is recommended only for experienced walkers, preferably with a local guide.

Climbing Experiences

The Trois Frères trail is a short climb with real character above Victoria. Nearly every account repeats the same sequence: a concrete lane rising from Sans Souci Road, then cinnamon and palm forest, a small spring, and finally natural steps and open granite slabs. Some 30–60 minutes later hikers reach a covered shelter with a panorama of Victoria and the Sainte Anne Marine Park. What makes it demanding is not the distance — about 1.4 km — but the gradient, rock that turns slick in rain, and tropical humidity at around 30 °C. Those who push on to the summit cross describe big granite boulders that require scrambling and hauling up on tree roots.
