Description

Toubkal (4,167 m) is the highest mountain in North Africa, in Morocco's High Atlas within Toubkal National Park. The trek bases in Imlil, about 65 km from Marrakech. The most popular route takes 2 days: up to the Toubkal Refuge then a scree summit. It is non-technical but altitude-demanding; in winter the summit is snowy and needs alpine gear.

Jalur Standar via Imlil — Refuge du Toubkal (2 hari)

The most popular route to Toubkal starts from Imlil village (1,740 m), about 90 minutes from Marrakech. Day 1: ascend the Mizane Valley through Armed village and the Sidi Chamharouch shrine (2,310 m) to Refuge du Toubkal (3,207 m) — about 4 hours. Night at the refuge (dormitory beds, hot food, toilets). Day 2: pre-dawn start (03:00–04:00) climbing the South Cwm via steep scree for 3–4 hours to the summit (4,167 m). Descend the same way to Imlil in 4–5 hours. Guides are required by Moroccan regulations.

A full 6-day circuit of the Toubkal massif traversing several high passes and rarely visited valleys. The route combines the Azzaden Valley, Mizane Valley, and various Berber seasonal pastures (azib), before climbing Toubkal from Refuge du Toubkal on Day 4 or 5. Passes include Tizi n'Ouagane (~3,750 m) and Tizi n'Ouanoums (3,664 m). Strongly recommended for hikers wanting the full cultural and landscape depth of the High Atlas.

Day 2: Tamsoult to Refuge du Toubkal via the dramatic Tizi n'Ouanoums pass (3,664 m), descending into the Mizane valley. Day 3: summit push and descent to Imlil. Less crowded than the standard route, with lush valley scenery and rarely visited villages.
