Description
Titov Vrv (Титов Врв; Maja e Titos in Albanian), 2,747 m, is the highest peak of the Šar Mountains (Šar Planina) in North Macedonia, about 21 km northwest of the city of Tetovo and near the Kosovo border. Its original name was 'Golem Turčin' ('Big Turk'); the peak was renamed in 1953 in honour of Josip Broz Tito, the Yugoslav leader, and has kept the name since Macedonian independence in 1991 — neighbouring countries still use the older name. Inside Šar Planina National Park, it is one of North Macedonia's most popular hiking objectives, reached by a well-marked trail from the Popova Šapka ski resort along a long alpine ridge. The summit offers a wide panorama over surrounding ranges such as Korab, Bistra and Mokra, plus the glacial lakes of the Šar. A tower structure stands on the top, visible from afar. Titov Vrv is also the site of a traditional mass ascent and an annual sky-running race.

Routes
Jalur Normal — Popova Šapka → Titov Vrv
Sedang: jalan makadam lalu jalur gunung bertanda merah-putih; hari panjang, tanpa bagian teknis di kondisi keringThe standard route up Titov Vrv starts at the Popova Šapka ski resort above Tetovo (~1,100 m; Smreka hut around 1,750 m). From there the trail follows a wide macadam track before switching to a climbing mountain path past the Eagles' Rocks (Orlovi Steni) up to the main Šar ridge. Red-and-white markings run the whole way and are easy to follow. Beyond the ridge, a final climb reaches the 2,747 m summit cairn with a broad panorama over Korab, Bistra and the glacial lakes of the Šar. The route is long, demanding good fitness and enough water (≥3 litres advised), but non-technical in dry conditions. Best season is July–September; residual frozen snow in early summer and autumn can call for an ice axe.

Climbing Experiences
Titov Vrv is the highest peak of the Šar Mountains and one of North Macedonia's finest alpine ridge hikes. The normal route starts at the Popova Šapka ski resort above Tetovo, following a macadam track and then a clear red-and-white marked trail past the Eagles' Rocks (Orlovi Steni) to the 2,747 m summit — about 4 hours up, with a long round trip (many sources cite ~17–20 km). A higher-ridge alternative via Ceripašina (~2,525 m) and Bakardan (~2,700 m) is tougher and often used in winter. Ridge weather can change fast with strong wind, and frozen snow in early summer and autumn can make an ice axe necessary. The summit gives a 360° panorama over Korab, Bistra, Mokra and the glacial lakes of the Šar. Titov Vrv is also known for a traditional mass ascent and an annual sky-running race. The clips below — in English, Macedonian and Albanian — show trail conditions, ridge panoramas, and ascents across seasons.
