Description

Titlis is a 3,238 m peak in the Uri Alps of Central Switzerland, straddling the border between the cantons of Obwalden and Bern. It is the highest summit of the range north of the Susten Pass, on the divide between the Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland, and is most often reached from the resort village of Engelberg on its northern flank. The mountain carries a glacier with year-round snow near the top. Much of its fame comes from tourism infrastructure: a staged cable-car system runs from Engelberg via Trübsee and Stand to the Klein Titlis station, its final stage — the Titlis Rotair — being the world's first rotating cable car. The summit area also has the Titlis Cliff Walk, Europe's highest suspension bridge, and a glacier cave. Beyond the lifts it remains a genuine alpine objective: foot ascents and ski tours involve glacier travel with crevasse hazard.
