Best Season: Musim semi (Maret–Mei) dan musim gugur (September–November) untuk suhu nyaman dan langit cerah. Musim panas kerap berkabut/hujan; musim dingin dingin namun kadang bersalju indah. Awan yang bergulung di sekitar tebing justru menjadi daya tarik khas.
Permits & Rules: Tidak ada izin pendakian teknis; kawasan dikelola sebagai taman nasional berbayar. Tiket masuk mencakup kereta gantung Tianmen (salah satu yang terpanjang di dunia) dan bus di Tongtian Avenue (jalan 99 tikungan). Antrean padat pada musim liburan.

Description

Tianmen Mountain (Tianmen Shan, 'Heaven's Gate Mountain', 1,519 m) lies within Tianmen Mountain National Park in Zhangjiajie, in the northwestern part of Hunan Province, China. Its signature feature is Tianmen Cave — a giant natural through-arch in the cliff face nicknamed the 'Heaven's Gate' — reached by the 999-step 'Stairway to Heaven'. Approaching the base, the Tongtian Avenue road winds through 99 famously sharp hairpin bends. The summit and slopes are ringed by cliffside walkways and several glass-floored skywalks that are as thrilling as they are scenic. The mountain is also served by the Tianmen cableway, one of the world's longest passenger cable cars, running from central Zhangjiajie to near the top. The combination of vertical karst cliffs, forest clinging to the slopes, and frequently swirling clouds makes Tianmen one of China's best-known tourism-and-hiking mountains.

Climbing Experiences

Most visitor accounts of Tianmen center on two experiences: climbing the 999-step 'Stairway to Heaven' up to the Tianmen Cave through-arch (Heaven's Gate), and walking the cliffside paths and glass-floored skywalks near the summit. Travel vlogs frequently highlight the very long Tianmen cableway, the 99-hairpin Tongtian Avenue, clouds swirling over the cliffs, and the fatigue and vertigo of the 999 steps. Many advise arriving early to beat the queues and wearing good footwear as the stairs can be slippery.
