Description
Wundu / Thornton Peak (1,374 m) is a rainforest-covered granite mountain in Daintree, Queensland, Australia, near 16.1642° S and 145.374° E according to Wikidata. Wundu is its Eastern Kuku Yalanji name and has spiritual significance for the community. Walking accounts show difficult navigation and trips that can end short of the highest point. An August 2017 botanical expedition rediscovered the fern Hymenophyllum whitei, previously presumed extinct. A 2021 interview with photographer Mark Sanders adds an account of rocky ground, overgrown tracks and carrying camera equipment. Historical accounts do not establish current access or camping permission. A participant account published by Botanic Gardens of Sydney explains how rain made a tiny fern easier to detect on a trackside boulder, complementing the account of the same expedition.

Routes
East Face — catatan historis menuju Summit Ridge (1984)
Off-track; navigasi dan scrambling berat, tanpa grade resmi terverifikasiKershaw documented Thornton Creek, Rock Staircase, Bracken Patch and a granite chimney onto the ridge. He sought water in the Cooper Creek headwaters because Boulder Valley had no surface water. This 1984 account establishes neither current access nor reaching the highest point. On descent, heavy rain made moss-covered Rocky Gully dangerously slippery and slowed progress.

SourceClimbing Experiences
Six sources cover the ridge reached in 1984, a lower approach abandoned in 2014, a 2015 climber comment, the 2017 botanical expedition and wildlife photography recalled in a 2021 interview. Outcomes differ; not all establish reaching the highest point. The Botanic Gardens of Sydney article adds a participant’s explanation of rain during the same botanical expedition; its 2019 publication date is not the ascent date. Gaia remains a route reference rather than a personal experience.
