Description

Telescope Peak (3,366 m) is the highest point of Death Valley National Park and the summit of California's Panamint Range. Its name reportedly refers to the telescope-like breadth of view from the top — hikers can see Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, while looking toward Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous United States. The trail from the Mahogany Flat trailhead runs roughly 22 km round trip through ancient bristlecone pine forest — among the oldest living organisms on Earth — before reaching the open summit ridge. The extreme contrast between a snow-capped peak and the hottest desert on Earth below makes Telescope Peak one of the most memorable hikes in the American desert.

Jalur Mahogany Flat (Telescope Peak Trail)

Sedang–berat — ±22 km PP dengan tanjakan ±900 m di ketinggian, non-teknis di musim kering

±6–9 jam pulang-pergi

Jalur utama dan satu-satunya yang bertanda dari trailhead Mahogany Flat (±2.500 m). Menyusuri punggungan Panamint lewat Arcane Meadows dan hutan pinus bristlecone purba sebelum mendaki serpentin terakhir ke puncak 3.366 m. Tanpa sumber air di jalur, jadi bawa air cukup; udara tipis membuat langkah terasa berat.
