Description
Sneeuberg (~2,027 m) is the highest peak of the Cederberg range in the Western Cape, South Africa — a non-volcanic Table Mountain Group sandstone summit that rises about 700 m above the plateau holding the iconic Maltese Cross formation and the Sneeuberg Hut. The standard route approaches from Sanddrif/Dwarsrivier past the Maltese Cross, then climbs to a saddle and follows the ridge; the summit section requires scrambling through a rock chimney and an exposed ledge, making it a demanding outing. On a clear day Cape Town's Table Mountain can be seen up to around 170 km away. The area is managed by CapeNature as the Cederberg Wilderness, so a permit is required.
Routes
Sneeuberg via Maltese Cross (dari Sanddrif/Dwarsrivier)
Berat; scrambling terekspos di bagian puncak (chimney & ledge)The standard route from the trailhead near Sanddrif/Dwarsrivier: a gentle ~4–4.5 km walk to the Maltese Cross formation (~1,424 m), then a climb to a saddle and along the ridge to the summit. Roughly 15–16 km round trip with ~800–870 m of gain; the final section requires scrambling through a chimney and an exposed ledge. There is no summit campsite, so it is best done in a single day.
SourceSneeuberg via Sederhoutkloof / Sneeuberg Hut (dari Driehoek)
Berat; scrambling menjelang puncakAn alternative from the Driehoek area up the Sederhoutkloof valley past Eikeboom to the Sneeuberg Hut (~1,250 m; ~6.3 km, ~440 m gain), then following the path toward the Maltese Cross for about 3 km until it meets the summit path that climbs via a slope gap and ridge. The hut makes an ideal basecamp for a two-day ascent.
