Description
Signalkuppe — Punta Gnifetti in Italian (4,554 m) — is one of the highest summits of the Monte Rosa massif and of the whole Alps, standing on the Italy–Switzerland border. What sets it apart is the Capanna Regina Margherita perched right on its summit: a mountain refuge that is also the highest building in Europe, inaugurated in 1893 and named after Queen Margherita of Italy, who attended the opening. The peak itself is named for Giovanni Gnifetti, a priest from Alagna who led one of its early ascents in 1842. Despite its great height the normal route is graded PD (peu difficile) — a glacier high-tour without extreme technical difficulty: most climbers ride the Punta Indren lift from Alagna Valsesia, overnight at the Rifugio Gnifetti (3,647 m), then set off before dawn across a broad crevassed glacier over the Colle Gnifetti to the summit and the Margherita hut. It is the altitude and the glacial environment that pose the real challenge: good acclimatisation, crevasse navigation and readiness for storms and thin air above 4,500 m are the keys to a safe ascent.

Routes
Rangkaian 4000er Monte Rosa (menautkan Signalkuppe & puncak sekitar)
Hochtour gletser PD–PD+ — beberapa puncak 4000-an dalam satu ekspedisiBecause Signalkuppe is surrounded by many 4000ers, climbers often link it with neighbouring peaks such as Zumsteinspitze (4,563 m), Parrotspitze, or Ludwigshöhe in a chain based at the Rifugio Gnifetti or overnighting at the Capanna Margherita. These routes follow the same Monte Rosa glaciers with snow-ridge variations between summits. They suit those wanting to maximise acclimatisation and 'collect' several 4000ers, but add exposure to altitude, crevasses, and changing weather — so condition assessment and time management become crucial.

Via Normale dari Rifugio Gnifetti (sisi Italia / Alagna)
Hochtour gletser PD — tanpa panjat teknis berat, tetapi gletser luas bercelah dan ketinggian >4.500 mThe normal and most-used route. From Alagna Valsesia, the Punta Indren lift takes climbers to ~3,275 m; from there a glacier route leads to the Rifugio Gnifetti (3,647 m) or Rifugio Città di Mantova to overnight and acclimatise. Before dawn the next day, climbers cross the broad crevassed Lys/Garstelet glacier, ascend over the Colle del Lys or Colle Gnifetti, then a final snow slope to Signalkuppe (4,554 m) and the Capanna Regina Margherita on the summit. There is no major technical difficulty, but crevasses, altitude, and weather make it a serious high-tour demanding roping up, crampons, and good acclimatisation.

Climbing Experiences
Climbing Signalkuppe / Punta Gnifetti usually means a two-day glacier high-tour via the Rifugio Gnifetti with an overnight — you can even sleep in the Capanna Regina Margherita, Europe's highest hut, right on its summit. The clips below are real climber experiences from the Italian side (Alagna) and in German, showing the broad Monte Rosa glaciers, a night at 4,554 m, and dawn panoramas above the clouds.
