- Inselberg (gunung pulau) tersusun dari gneiss, migmatit, dan granit asal subvulkanik — non-vulkanik; kerap disebut puncak kedua tertinggi Angola
- Volcanic?
- No (non-volcanic)
- Coordinates
- -13.7167, 13.1667
- Difficulty
- Sulit — trek off-trail di medan sangat terpencil tanpa jalur setapak jelas; bukan panjat teknis, tetapi menuntut kemandirian penuh
- Best Season
- Musim kemarau sejuk, sekitar Mei–September (langit kering, akses jalur 4x4 lebih aman)

- Hazards
- Keterpencilan ekstrem tanpa infrastruktur, sinyal, maupun sumber air; jalur tanah kasar hanya bisa dilalui 4x4; panas dan kekeringan Gurun Namib di kaki gunung; medan tanpa jalur setapak jelas (risiko tersesat); ular dan satwa liar; suhu dingin di puncak
Description
Serra da Neve is an isolated inselberg (island mountain) rising to a 2,489 m summit in Namibe Province, southwestern Angola, and is widely cited as the country's second-highest peak after Mount Moco. It stands abruptly above the surrounding Namib Desert and Namibian woodland savanna, its plateau sitting roughly 1,700 m above the plains and covering about 600 km². Geologically it is built mainly of gneisses, migmatites and granites of subvolcanic origin rather than being an active volcano, and it is physically and geologically isolated from Angola's main escarpment. Its cooler, wetter microclimate supports Miombo woodland and relict afromontane vegetation that contrasts sharply with the arid lowlands, making it a biodiversity island. Three herpetological expeditions (2016, 2019 and 2022) led by researchers including Mariana Marques, Diogo Parrinha and Luis Ceríaco documented 59 amphibian and reptile taxa, eight of them strictly endemic — the richest area for strict endemics in southwestern Africa. Newly described endemics include the pygmy toad Poyntonophrynus pachnodes, the gecko Afroedura praedicta, a girdled lizard and the legless skink Acontias mukwando. The Mukwando people live and farm on the plateau, and the mountain remains one of Angola's least-explored and most scientifically significant highlands.

Routes
Pendekatan Namibe → Bibala/Camucuio → desa Catchi (dataran tinggi)
Sulit — trek off-trail non-teknis di medan sangat terpencil; bukan panjat teknisThere is no marked tourist trail; access follows the route used by scientific expeditions — driving 4x4 tracks inland from Namibe via the Bibala/Camucuio area to the base, then ascending to the plateau and villages such as Catchi (~1,590 m) before continuing over pathless granite and Miombo terrain toward the ~2,489 m high point. Full self-sufficiency and a local guide are essential.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Serra da Neve is almost never climbed for tourism — it is a remote scientific-expedition mountain, so the verified 'experiences' are field reports and expedition papers rather than hiking vlogs. The sources below include a journal-published herpetofauna inventory from three field expeditions, descriptions of newly discovered endemic species, one first-person field trip report, a Portuguese-language tourism feature on what there is to do and the Mukwando community living on its plateau, and a mountaineering-database profile — all specific to this inselberg and giving a real sense of its terrain, access and villages.
